Arizona Nursing Jobs Supported by Nursing Homes
Facilities for the elderly support tens of thousands of Arizona nursing jobs.
The number of nursing jobs Arizona has to offer at nursing homes throughout the state is about 11,946. That's according to the most recent Care Context report from the Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care, which also found that nursing homes bring in about $1.99 billion each year.
Nationwide, nursing homes provide about 1.7 million jobs and result in an economic impact of more than $201 billion per year. New York sees the biggest impact from nursing homes - both employment and economic-wise - followed by California and Ohio.
The nursing home sector makes up more than 12 percent of overall employment in the healthcare industry. As the population continues to age, nursing homes are expected to add 400,000 jobs between 2008 and 2018, an increase of 24 percent.
While there are a number of nursing positions available at nursing homes, including everything from management and human resources to building maintenance and food preparation, the most popular positions are for nurses.
Registered nurses, which make up 2 percent of the country's total employment, are the most in-demand workers at nursing homes. In fact, nursing homes employed 130,000 RNs, or 5 percent of the RN workforce, during 2008. These jobs are expected to grow by 25 percent by 2018.
Licensed practical nurses and licensed vocation nurses also are among the most in-demand positions at nursing homes. During 2008, about 211,000 of these jobs, or 28 percent, were in nursing homes. These positions are expected to grow by about 21 percent by 2018.
RNs working at nursing homes earn an average of $57,060 per year, while LPNs and LVNs earn an average of $40,580 per year.
